Transitioning from Preceptor to Clinical Educator

NP student attainment of competencies are directly related to quality clinical experience during academic preparation.

What makes a Clinical Educator different from a Preceptor?

In our NYU Meyers and NYU Langone Academic Partnership, preceptors transition to Clinical Educators through participation in educational opportunities offered through our HRSA grant.

Clinical Educators are:

  • Uniquely qualified to facilitate the transition of Nurse Practitioner students from dependent to independent providers.

  • Knowledgeable about topics not taught during formal training.

  • Able to apply adult teaching learning theories and integrate the latest topics in healthcare and policy into clinical teaching.

  • Proficient in performing student evaluations.

What are the benefits?

  • Courtesy adjunct appointment at NYU Meyers College of Nursing.

  • Personal satisfaction gained when sharing expertise with future NPs

  • Access to NYU Meyers online library services.

  • Earn free CEs

  • Apply precepting hours toward recertification

  • Network with faculty and colleagues at special events for participants

PRECEPTORS ARE CRITICAL TO OUR MISSION TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR PRACTICE AND WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO!
